Never one to miss out on an up-and-coming tech trend, Google is all set to launch its very own cloud storage service, competing with the likes of Dropbox, Microsoft and Apple. 

People familiar with the matter were unable to keep schtum and spilled to the Wall Street Journal (paywall), telling it that the Chocolate Factory’s new service Drive was getting ready to burst on the scene with online storage for files that can be accessed from any device with a Wi-Fi connection.

I thought this was mostly rumor. I already pay Google for extra storage for Picasa, Google Docs. I would be excited to have direct access to that from my desktop.

Down the wrong Path.

iOS Address Book access should prompt the user for permission – Marco.org

The popular Path app was caught uploading and permanently storing people’s entire address books on Path’s servers. People were upset, but what’s scarier is the bigger issue: apparently, this is a very common practice among popular apps.

Common practice? I certainly hope not.  In fact, I think application should need apps to prompt for access to any device data — location, address book, network etc. From an information security standpoint, this makes sense.  What do you think?
